Children Counselling In Details (7 to 17 years old)
Why should my Child/Youth start counselling?
Childhood/ Youth is a time for growth and exploration, this journey of discovery is rarely a straight line or a clear path. Children can thrive with proper support and skillsets when navigating particular milestones, transitions, social, emotional and academic situations. I guide children & youth through these experiences and use them as teachable moments, opportunities for growth and ways to build self-confidence.
How does Children/ Youth Counselling work?
Children/ Youth Counselling is a process through which children/ youth work one-on-one with a trained counsellor in a safe, caring, and interactive environment.
Children/ Youth explore and learn about their emotions, feelings, beliefs, and behaviours, work through challenges they face or influential memories and experiences, learn to identify problems and opportunities for growth and strategy use, better understand themselves and others, work towards therapeutic goals, desired changes and overall confidence, happiness and success.
When should my child/ Youth start counselling?
Early identification and intervention are critical and can lead to improved achievement in school and better health outcomes in life. When children and youth have a physical illness or injury, parents seek professional help to get them the medical attention they need. When children and youth have symptoms of a mental illness, they need their parents to respond and advocate with the same urgency and dedication. While every situation is unique, there are many well-established types of therapy to help young people deal with developmental difficulties, mental health issues and other challenges.
Which therapies do you use?
Always adapting my approach to meet the unique and individual needs of the child/youth I work with is essential.
Children counselling is a type of talk therapy that helps individuals explore thoughts and feelings, change behaviours and address problems in their lives. For youth mature enough to articulate and understand complex feelings, traditional talk therapy can be beneficial.
Play therapy is an approach primarily used to help younger children, who may have difficulty expressing their thoughts and feelings verbally. In a safe, comfortable play area or from the comfort of home, I can observe the child’s choices, decisions and play style. The goal is to help children express difficult thoughts and emotions in healthier ways and discover new and more positive ways to solve problems.
Storytelling Therapy or Narrative therapy helps children/ youth externalize their problems and language and situate the problem as something outside of their life rather than internal to themself. Narrating the relationship between the child/ youth and the problem in this way distances children/ youth from their issues. It allows a light-hearted approach to a situation usually treated with extreme seriousness. In this way, the child/ youth and I manoeuvre around the problem, giving it less space and power in the child’s life.

"I had an amazing session with Aurore around my attachment style. I was very fearful-avoidant in my relationships, with a lot of trust issues. I would unconsciously distance myself from others and didn't understand why. Through our session together, Aurore wonderfully guided me to the root cause, and through gaining this profound understanding, I was able to release the limiting beliefs that were holding me back. I felt an instant shift and I can definitely see the change in my relationships since the session!"
Lasting change is more than a wish;
it's a Choice
